A New Journey
The past few years I've given something up for lent. I've given up soda, taken myself off of Facebook, cut out desserts, and stopped chewing gum. Once lent is over though I'm back to my old ways. So I thought this year, instead of keeping myself from something short term, I would start something long term.
I have come across a lot of blogs and books lately that have challenged me and inspired me in my faith, especially in times when I have felt stuck in a spiritual rut. Hearing other people's stories, encounters with Christ, and what they have learned in their spiritual journeys has been fascinating. God uses us all in different ways and for different things.
I've been a Christian my whole life, but only recently have I become a Christ Follower.
Now that I am actively seeking God's kingdom in my everyday life, why am I keeping my experiences to myself or limiting their range to just my circle of close friends and family? God has done some amazing things in my life and used me in ways I would have never thought possible. He works in and through a normal, everyday person like myself and he can do the same with all of us. Some of us just are not aware.
I've never been "popular" or "cool" but I have a handful of close friends. I'm not the most confident but I have a big heart. I don't have any profound skills but I have passion. I don't have much of a plan but that's okay because I know God would wreck it anyways for something better.
We don't need to have it all together (whatever that means anyways), be successful, or have a lot of friends or skills to change this world. We just need to listen for God to tell us where to go and what to do and he will use all of us. It probably won't be easy or seem convenient, it'll require some sacrifice, but it will bring more to our lives than anything we could imagine for ourselves.
As I begin this blog, a little before the start of lent, my hope is that, as I seek intimacy and work to be more attentive to God and what he plans to use me for, I can maybe inspire someone along the way. Maybe God can use my experiences to encourage someone else, just as I have been inspired and encouraged by others, to find their identity in Christ.
I hope you'll join me on my journey. God bless!
